Week 8 - Lesson 1

Qualitative Research Article

Sample Response

Let's see....

1. I'd like to know more about using techniques used to teach Gifted Students to teach those not labeled as such... if we treat "Typical" kids like they are gifted would they be lost or would they discover abilities maybe they didn't know they had because everything has been scripted and regimented before?????

2. I would like to know more about the possibly of using the Fish Business Philosophy as a behavior program with school children.  Could they also grasp the ideas of "Be Present," "Make Their Day," that are so successful in many workplaces and apply it to their attitude about attending school?
Schools are using it for the adults on staff but what about for the kids?  I inquired last year with the PR Department of the company and they didn't have any research on using the program with children.

3. I would like to know more about attempts to use Positive Behavior Supports with children who are not labeled ESE or troubled. I have heard that some schools in Santa Rosa County are trying this. It seems to me that if children with Severe Emotional Disabilities thrive on a program where every day is a new day - where they can earn (and not lose) rewards and they know each day where they stand --- then why not use this with students who are not tested and labeled but who also are having a hard time learning how to behave in school, learning to appropriately respond to their own anger, or how to react in a positive way when they do get in trouble?
