Supervised Experience (Optional)*

Typically students are required to complete 1500 hours of supervised experience (see www.bacb.com) before they are eligible to sit for the BCBA exam. Enrollment in UWF’s intensive supervised experience class will allow students to complete 750 hours in 2 semesters, which satisfies the BCBA requirements and cuts the time needed by half (750 instead of 1500 hours). To complete the experience requirements, students would enroll in this extra course for 2 semesters. The course requires that the student is working in the field of ABA for a minimum of 25 hours weekly for 15 weeks during each semester (30 weeks total) with site visits by a supervisor twice weekly for about 3 hours per week over the 30 week period. Enrollment in these experience classes can occur at any time after the initial enrollment in EDF 6225.

Please note that to qualify for this option, a supervisor must be both a) a BCBA in good standing and b) an employee of UWF hired to teach this course. In many cases, this option may not be available if a supervisor can not be located who is both willing and qualified to provide the appropriate hours. *This course is optional in regard to BCBA certification only. If you are planning to complete the M.A. in Special Education at UWF, this course will count toward your degree plan. If you choose to meet the supervision requirements without enrollment in this course, you will need to complete a 3.0 graduate credit hour course to replace this course in the degree plan.
